On Tuesday, July 20th the Village Board heard a presentation on the Illinois Dementia Friendly and Dementia Friends Program. This presentation was from the RUSH Alzheimer’s Disease Center. The presentation is available by clicking HERE. The presentation addressed how communities can become designated as “Dementia Friendly Illinois” communities as well as the process that individuals can take to become a “Dementia Friend”.
There are different forms of dementia. As noted in the presentation more than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, one of the most recognizable forms of dementia. In Illinois more that 230,000 people aged 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s. As our population ages these numbers are growing.
Over 6,000 people in Illinois are a Dementia Friend. You can sign-up online at https://dementiafriendsusa.org/. The process takes only about 10 minutes.
