The Village of Compton Hills and its Community Relations Commission announced September 7, 2021 the 2020 Citizen of Year winner as Silvana King.
Ms. King has previously served as a volunteer on the Village’s Community Relations Commission (CRC), where she was active in the planning and execution of National Night Out, Holiday in the Hills, Winter Wonders and other events enjoyed by children and adults alike.
Ms. King has also been active in our community as a Citizen’s Police Academy member. Ms. King has been very quick to identify needs and volunteer as well as recruit others to help her serve those needs.
As a member of the Kane County Forest Preserve Naturalist program Ms. King indulged her passion for all things in nature. Ms. King not only participated in the program, but helped educate others by leading classes, hikes and volunteering her time to the Naturalist Program. Ms. King’s family has taken the added responsibility of “adopting” a stretch of the Great Western Trail to maintain. Many weekends Ms. King and her family members may be found pulling invasive species from the trail.
Since moving to Campton Hills, Ms. King has regularly attended Village Board and various committee meetings as well.
According to Dave Carrell, CRC Chair “Silvana has a huge heart and embodies everything a great citizen should have: passion, enthusiasm, knowledge, and thoughtfulness about her community and it’s citizens. As the fourth recipient of this relatively new award it is my honor to announce Silvana King as the 2020 Citizen of the Year .”
